Introducing Alice, the latest JBMer – By Sophia Domzalska

This week’s rambling is all about our newest JBMer Alice McDermott, who has joined the team focusing on Retail Banking and Fintechs. She recruited across the Strategy and M&A space for 18 months in her previous role upon graduating Sheffield university.

Beyond recruitment, Alice’s Blind Date profile reads: a North London girl born and bred, who enjoys long walks whether that be through London’s leafy parks or Vietnam’s forests. She is a lover of dogs, museums and nail varnish but most importantly, she is our fabulous new team mate!

Here’s a little more on why Alice joined the team at JBM:

Why did you join JBM?

I really wanted to be part of a small business and felt the dynamic in the office was right for me. It’s so important to know your teammates well as I think it fosters a culture that’s supportive and open…and ultimately when I met the JBM team I just found them hilarious.

(Humble brag we are a hilarious group.)

What do you bring to the team?

I think I bring a fresh pair of eyes to the way we do business – I can bring the skill-set I honed during my recruitment career to the JBM way of life.

Something else I hope I bring to my role and the team is empathy, not just with the individuals we place and work with, but my colleagues too. Emotional intelligence is so important!

(Alice has already changed life at JBM with the introduction of coconut milk hot chocolate – it’s the little things…)

What is your view on the Recruitment industry?

The market in which we operate can be a tricky one to navigate from both our perspective and that of the job-seeker. Ideas and ideals about lifestyle changes, from, for example, a consulting role to an industry role, can be very difficult to predict. I think a key part of my job is managing expectations and giving consultative career advice. There should be more coaching between recruiter and candidate in the industry on the whole – it helps to develop trust, and proves that we are in it for the long-haul. Show that you care about your candidate’s career journey!

What are you most looking forward to?

I look forward to establishing new relationships and strengthening old ones, I am excited to see how candidate stories develop from initial call to their next career move.

Is there anything else we need to know about Alice?

I intend to own three dogs – a black Labrador, a Whippet and a Daschund.
